Glimpse at the goal...

Do you have a goal you are working towards? Have you been working towards this goal a while? Have you ever thought about giving up the goal for various reasons? (Too hard, not quickly attained, etc?) I can answer yes to all the questions above. There have been times, when I question the change of our lifestyle. I tend to question it, when I am completely worn out mentally and physically.

Our goal has been a work in progress for the last three years. The changes to our lives are drastic compared to how we used to live. A small example would be that we used to go to the grocery store weekly for most our foods, and a lot of those foods were convenience foods. We grew some vegetables, but it was more for nostalgic reasons. Now, we grow a large variety of fruits and vegetables to sustain us. We do occasionally buy bananas, and for special treats, oranges, when they are in season. The meals/foods we eat are completely made from scratch ingredients. We store approximately four months worth of staple foods, right now. Our goal is to get to a year’s worth of staple food ingredients, but storage space is scarce right now. We purchase our staple ingredients in bulk quantities. We have found this an affordable way in which we can eat organic foods.

Time, however, is something we run short of these days, compared to earlier years. Food preparation from scratch takes time and planning ahead. Spring and fall seem to be the hardest time to keep up with food preparation, during our planting and harvesting seasons.

Occasionally, I imagine we must be sitting still with no progression towards our goal. It isn’t until we visit with a friend or relative that we have not seen in a while, who questions our reasoning for this change in our life. This is when we get to see how far along we really have come. There is still a long ways to go, no doubt. We give thanks to our Heavenly Father for giving us a glimpse of where we have come from, when we I need it most, to keep us me focused, and for me to continue to realize patience is one of the goals, in moving towards His plan.

Blessings on your day! Kris
